Definition
Ø The process in which a fetus dies after ossification within uterus
& the fetus undergoes microbial digestion in fluid of uterus till
only the mass of bones remains.
Ø Expulsion of an aborting fetus fails to occur.
Ø Fetus putrefies, in the uterine cavity, in the presence of bacteria
& oxygen originating from the open cervix.
Ø Reported in almost all the species. Frequent in cattle, rare in
sheep.
Ø CL regression occurs. Fetus putrefication continues until only a
compact mass of fetal bones remains.
Ø Cervix patent, chronic mucopurulent vaginal discharge seen.
