,Mamma’s Bakery and Sandwich Shoppe Project Charter 2
Executive Summary
The purpose of this project charter is to give a preliminary delineation of roles and
responsibilities, outlines the project objectives, identifies the main stakeholders, and
defines the authority of the project manager. It serves as a reference to the authority for
advancing the project to completion. The scope of the project is to provide Mamma
Mia’s Bakery and Sandwich Shoppe with Information Technology (IT) capabilities which
include: point-of-sale, inventory, and for bookkeeping purposes. Additionally, employees
at the bakery will use the system to connect to Mamma Mia’s suppliers, the health
department for food services, and other business relationships. Furthermore, the
system will have a website which connects to an Internet presence and so Mamma
Mia’s customers can make advance orders for pick-up. Additionally, the system will
have the capability to process debit and credit cards.
In considering all the requirements and task of this project, the estimate is $100,000.00
dollars. The schedule of this project will depend on the reconstruction and new
reconfiguration of the bakery. The plan is to install some hardware and wiring in the
closets and walls as the restructuring occurs in an effort for concealment for aesthetic
purposes. Estimate of the IT project is four weeks for total completion. The project
success criteria are to establish best practice communication methods with the
stakeholders to complete the project on time on budgets without scope creep while
providing what the customer needs for a 100 percent functional IT system without fatal
flaws.
The project management and technical approach are ensuring that the Project Team
completes the project on schedule, within budget, and within scope. The project
manager (PM) develops the Project Plan with the project team and manages the team’s
performance of tasks to complete all deliverables. The project objective is to automate
Mamma Mia’s Bakery and Sandwich Shop with an IT system to modernize the
organization for a simpler and more efficient operation. Some of the project constraints
are the budget and the time which the team must work within. Some of the most
obvious risks are the location of team members, as they are at various location around
the country and around the world. The entire team is not always available to meet at a
regularly scheduled time. So, it is frustrating getting critical information to key team
members at any given time. The most obvious risk is that some team members have
other project working on at the same time and must split available time between the
projects. Also, the client did not clearly present the project’s requirements and there is a
real risk of scope creep. Roles and responsibilities are: Team Leader/Project Manager,
Editor/Assistant Research Manager, Research Manager, Work Planning and
Schedule/Assistant Team Leader, Configuration Manager/Assistant Documentation
Manager, and Documentation Manager/Assistant Configuration Manager.
, Mamma’s Bakery and Sandwich Shoppe Project Charter 3
The primary stakeholders are Mamma Mia and her organization, the project team, and
the IT business which employee’s the project team. The PM will establish single points
of contact (SPOC) as the project communication methodology. Instead of everyone
communicating with everyone else, and enabling mass confusion, the stakeholders
communicate only with the SPOC. The project team members also communicate only
with the SPOC and the PM. This is an excellent way to simplify the communication
process. There is a consensus for change among the stakeholders. The threshold for is
that if there is a need for a change order which results in a 15 percent change of the
deliverables resulting in a three-week extension to the project completion time or
funding cost exceeding the project cost by 10 percent. The end of the project is the
complete satisfaction of all the major stakeholders.
