Executive Summary
The primary objective of this project is to improve Mamma’s Bakery and
Sandwich Shoppe business by implementing modern and efficient IT technology. Currently all
paperwork, bookkeeping, ordering supplies, hiring and firing, and keeping track of inventory is
prepared manually and all business is conducted via telephone or paper documents. Additionally,
all goods are purchased via cash or check. Mamma’s dated operation systems and processes will
become unmanageable with the business’ expansion, developing a clear need for an efficient IT
solution.
According to Didraga, Bibu, & Brandas (2012), risk is defined as “an uncertain event or
condition that, if it occurs, influences at least one project objective: scope, schedule, cost and
quality.” Every IT project involves taking risk, therefore it is essential for the IT team to identify
risk, assess risk probability, and estimate its impact. To successfully implement Mamma’s IT
system, the project team must fully understand the project requirements and clearly define
project metrics from both the business’s and the team’s perspective. A management approach to
IT project risk management will be implemented by identifying events and situations that could
interfere with the project. This approach focuses on relevant and project specific risks. A great
deal of focus is also applied to the impact of this project. A clear impact assessment can foster
cooperation, increase support and funding, as well as foretell success (Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University, 2018).
Mamma’s Bakery and Sandwich Shoppe has identified an estimated $100,000 to allocate
the necessary resources required to deliver a suitable IT system solution. The resources will be
used to implement a modern automated system for bookkeeping and inventory, ordering
supplies, finance, and business transactions. The budget will also account for a network that will
