Course Delivery Method
This course is designated accelerated online, which means the course will be delivered entirely online with no
required class meetings.

Time and Place of Class Meetings
This course is an asynchronous online course. There are no in person meetings for this course. All work will be
submitted via Canvas and must be submitted by the due date. Feel free to reach out for questions or concerns.
Each of you will be assigned to a section instructor—they are available, as am I to assist in your learning this
semester.

Time Zone
This course operates on Central Time. All times listed for class meeting times, exams, and assignment deadlines
are in Central Time. All students regardless of their physical location are required to adhere to the Central
Standard Time zone due dates and times. It is the student’s responsibility to know, in which time zone
they are located, how it differs from the CST zone, and to ensure they follow the due dates and times
accordingly. Late assignments or tests will not be accepted if the student encounters difficulties due to time
zone discrepancies.

Description of Course Content
This course is the study of clinical pharmacological therapeutics for advanced nursing practice.

Prerequisites—N5315 or Certificate Program Standing

1. Prescribe drugs based on knowledge of drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics as it relates to
relevant individual patient characteristics [e.g., age, culture, & gender].
2. Prescribe drugs based on efficacy, safety, cost, expected outcomes, and other health conditions.
3. Apply appropriate monitoring parameters in assessing the impact and efficacy of drug treatment.
4. Minimize drug reactions/interactions with special attention on vulnerable populations such as infants,
children, pregnant & lactating women & older adults.
5. Counsel the patient /family concerning drug regimens, side effects, interactions with other
prescription /non-prescription drugs, herbal preparations, and food supplements.
6. Write prescriptions that fulfill the legal requirements for advanced practice nursing prescriptive
authority in the state of Texas.
