→ Heroin accounts for high incident of abuse
→ Oral-Injection-Intravenously-Intranasal

◊ Euphoria
◊ Arousable Somnolence
◊ Nausea
◊ Pinpoint pupils

Treatment
□ A/W-Ventilatory
□ Circulatory Assistance
□ Naloxone (Narcan)
□ Methadone

Methadone/ Narcotic withdrawal
→ Long acting opioid similar to heroin in it properties.
→ Clinic must be licensed and counseling available.
→ Used to decrease criminal behavior and drug craving.
→ Patient must have been opioid dependent for 1 year and not have benefited
from drug free treatment.
→ Patient remains physically dependent but are free from uncontrolled,
compulsive, disruptive behavior.




DEPRESSANTS (SEDATIVE-HYPNOTICS)
• Anxiety-Insomnia-Stress
• Seizures & Alcohol withdrawal
• Orally…..can be diluted & injected
• Commonly referred to as downers
• Alcohol
