CP02 Advance Pathophysiology Week 5 discussion breath of fresh air – South University Breath of fresh air In this discussion, this student will review the case study and discuss emphysema, causes, effects, treatments, and relevant information relating to it. Also, she will review the lungs and respiratory systems, function, and uses. What is the respiratory system? It is comprised of the lungs, which are two sack-like structures in the thoracic region. It consists of one’s nose, nasal cavity, sinuses, mouth, throat, voice box, trachea, diaphragm, lungs, bronchial tubes, bronchi, bronchioles, air sacs, and capillaries (WebMD [WebMD], 2020). The gas exchange occurs in the alveoli in the lungs when oxygen is transferred to the blood, and carbon dioxide is put out to be removed from the body. In addition to providing a transportation system for the oxygen transfer, the lungs, and upper respiratory system, assist in making sound and providing the ability for animals and humans to communicate. Furthermore, the nose has nerves that pick up the different smells in the air called olfactory nerves (Biology Dictionary, 2020).In addition to all these things, the - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- In conclusion, we see that while COPD involves several different types of lung disorders and diseases, some of these may coexist and can complicate each other. Also, knowing the differences and how to treat them as well as prevent or halt the worsening of them can be of great help to our patients. The lungs are vital to our existence, and we must take care of them and our environment to help others as well to stay healthy. This can be done by not smoking and not around others because secondhand smoke causes worse damage than firsthand in most cases. In addition, we can carpool to cut additions or drive economical cars.
