2021 Review of Knowledge- NR 291
Definitions: Review definitions at the beginning of the chapter. Identify the 4 phases of pharmacokinetics, and explain briefly what occurs in each phase. 1. Absorption is the movement of a drug from its site of administration into the bloodstream for distribution to the tissues. 2. Distribution refers to the transport of a drug by the bloodstream to its site of action. 3. Metabolism is also referred to as biotransformation. It involves the biochemical alteration of a drug into an inactive metabolite, a more soluble compound, a more potent active metabolite (as in the conversion of an inactive prodrug to its active form), or a less active metabolite. 4. Excretion is the elimination of drugs from the body
