This file defines and outlines the concepts of Production Planning and Control (PPC). Definition: Production Planning & Control (also called Operations Planning and Control) is the planning, direction, and coordination of a firm's material and physical facilities to achieve predetermined production objectives in the most economical manner. Production Planning: A pre-production activity concerned with deciding in advance what, how, and by what time production will occur. It involves determining manufacturing requirements such as manpower, materials, and machines. Production Control: Concerned with the successful implementation of the production plan and completing production efficiently by using control measures. Objectives: The main goals are to achieve an uninterrupted production flow, meet customer demands for quality and delivery, supply good quality products at competitive rates, and ensure coordination among various departments. Active Planning Modules: Key planning activities include Process planning and routing, Materials planning, Tools planning, Loading, and Scheduling.
