,INTRODUCTION
• Dystocia is a term used to explain a difficult birth,
typically caused by a large or awkwardly positioned
fetus, by smallness of the maternal pelvis, or by
failure of the uterus and cervix to contract and expand
normally.
• According to Albers (2001) dystocia is a term used for a
difficult or slower labor and it includes both failure to
progress and prolonged labor.
, The delay can occur during:
• The latent phase of labor.
• The active phase of labor.
• The second stage of labor.
