1. What is a Preposition?
A preposition is a word that shows the relationship between a noun/pronoun and another word in the
sentence.
It usually tells us about place, time, direction, cause, possession, method, etc.
Examples: in, on, at, by, to, for, from, under, between, over, with, without, across.
2. Types of Prepositions
A. Prepositions of Place:
• in – inside something (in the room)
• on – on a surface (on the table)
• at – a point location (at the bus stop)
• under – below something
• between – in the space separating two things
• among – in a group of many things
B. Prepositions of Time:
• at – exact time (at 5 PM)
• on – days/dates (on Monday)
• in – months/years/centuries (in 2024)
• during – happening throughout a period (during the movie)
• before/after – earlier/later
C. Prepositions of Direction:
• to – movement towards something
• into – going inside
• towards – in the direction of
