Ingroups - Groups to which we belong. Outgroups - Groups to which we do not belong. Coculture - Subgroup of a specific culture. Communication Competence - A balance between effective and appropriate communication. Competent communication includes... - A repertoire of skills, adaptability, skillful performance, empathy, cognitive complexity and self monitoring. Culturally sensitive communication - You prepare yourself, can recognize fears and differences, can find differences in meaning, there is some rule consciousness. Levels of Communication - Level 1 = Displays visible approval and disinterest Level 2 = Neutral or absent gestures and responses that sound mechanical Level 3 = Clearly shows attention and interest Level 4 = Person is intensely involved and attentive.
