Social responsibility is showing consideration for each other’s physical and mental well-being.
Businesses have 4 different types
1. Lodging business : Hotel, pension, spa/conference resort, camping, youth hostel
2. Food supplying business : Snack bar, cafeteria, fast food restaurant, restaurant, lunch room
3. Beverage supplying business for use at a location : Tea room, café, bar, night club, disco,
community centre (if licensed )
4. Food and beverage supplying business : Snack bar, cafeteria, fast food restaurant, restaurant,
lunchroom.
There are a lot of different target groups in the market:
- Tourists
- Students (secondary school)
- Parents with children
- Business people
- Seniors
- Working youth
- Ethnic youth
- Students
- Single people
- People with dual income
- Guests with lots of leisure time
In the hospitality business there are 6 P’s
- Place
- Presentation
- Personnel
- Product
- Price
- Promotion
The P spiral is Product, Behaviour, Environment
Hospitality is the impression that guests get from the service offered Think of : the degree of service,
the way which guests are treated, the way guest get along together and with the staff.
The type of hospitality offered is called the hospitality concept. The combination of the business
formula and the hospitality concept determine eventually the target group.
Required provisions for catering establishment
Floor area must be a minimum of 35 m2
Minimum height of 2,40 m measured from the floor up
Good ventilation system
Two strictly separate toilet facilities with
- 1 or more proper and lockable toilet cabins
- 1 or more proper facilities to wash hands
- All toilets and urinals are with water flush
- The toilets are not accessible outside the
hospitality area
, Fire prevention
Since 1971 every staff members need to be aware and trained in fire and emergency evacuation
procedures for their workplace. Every employer must carry out a risk assessment for the premises
and allow for several legal regulations with respect to fire prevention.
The employee must know about : the building code resolution, building fire-safe building, local
building codes, if they have a permit for fire-safe use. Employee must know where the fire alarm is
and the fire extinguishing equipment.
