Legendary Foundation (753 BCE): According to Roman tradition, Rome was founded by Rom
on the Palatine Hill.
The story of Romulus and Remus, twin sons of Mars and Rhea Silvia, reflects the blend of my
identity-building in early Rome.
Archaeological Evidence: Excavations suggest that small Latin and Sabine settlements existed
hills around the Tiber River by the 10th–8th centuries BCE.
These villages gradually merged, with the Palatine and Capitoline Hills becoming politica
religious centers.
