(D) Stage and manage a business or social enterprise event

L.O: If you have staged your event as some of you have you need to describe how the event was run
and the skills that you showed during the running of the event.

Through assessing the three events above, my team and I, have chosen to stage and manage a
fundraising event. We have chosen to undertake a bake sale at my old dance studio in Heworth,
York. Dance to me personally, holds many memories and from joining the ‘Just Dance York’ studio at
two years old, through the fourteen years of being a member, I was given the opportunity to
experience many different things outside of my comfort zone. Without being able to strengthen
myself mentally and physically there, I would not be as confident or skilful as I am today, and that is
from the hours of support and training from the studio teachers who run the club after their normal
days jobs. It is a place where I spent thousands of hours learning and progressing as a person and
therefore, I wanted to raise money for the studio as thank you gesture as well as helping other
children.

This upcoming September, is their annual showcase held at the Joseph Roundtree Theatre in York.
As the studio only holds around 100 children, they struggle to fund the event and often have to busk
in York City Centre or ask for parents to buy their children’s costumes. The pricing of costumes can
be very expensive especially for those families who are of a poorer background and therefore the
purpose of the bake sale would be to give all of the money raised to those children and parents who
are unable to afford the materials. This would mean that more children are able to take part in the
show, which would mean that the event would be able to take place, tickets would then sell, and
then the money raised would go to their own choice of charity through dancing and entertaining the
local community.

Holding a bake sale in comparison to a running race or dance workshop is a more achievable idea.
Myself and the other two team members all live within 15 miles of the studio which means that the
location isn’t far out of reach. Through discussing the idea with the dance leader (Stacey) it was
agreed that the event could take place in the studio meaning our venue has no cost and a definite
availability.

Firstly, we checked to see how many children we would need to cater for, how many have allergies
and then agreed that the bake sale would take place on Monday 9th March, which would give us a
sufficient amount of time to prepare and bake enough buns/cakes for the children. The sale would
be worthwhile doing as from around 80 children, profit can be made once the cost of the ingredients
were to be taken away. All money raised from the children giving a donation, would give more
parents a financial help to buy the children’s costumes (in particular parents who have more than
one child at the studio).

To begin with, as a group, we created a plan as to what types of bakes we wanted to produce and
from this, came up with our ingredient list. In the meantime, I created a poster and leaflet template
which we then split the cost of the print out between one another. I took these down to the studio
took weeks in advance, to create awareness to both the dancers and their parents after collecting
from my team members houses.

After shopping for our ingredients in cheap supermarkets like Aldi, we were then ready to make our
buns and cakes having a sub total of £25.00 altogether. Through the use of electronic
