History
1. What are the 3 phases of an interview?: introduction, discussion, summary
2. What is the introduction phase of a patient interview?: greet, introduce,
explain why you're here
3. What is the interview phase of patient interview?: Keep patient centered,
use variety of communication skills to collect data
4. What is the summary phase of patient interview?: summarize data with
patient
5. What is an open ended question?: Elicit responses that are more than one or two
words
6. What are close ended questions?: Elicit only 1-2 word answer, usually yes or no
7. What is active listening?: Attentive to body language, facial expressions and nonverbal
behavior
8. What is facilitation?: encourages the patient to continue talking and provide more detail
9. What is clarification?: used to obtain more information about conflicting, vague statements

10. What is summary?: condensing and summarizing to help clarify the sequence of
