Introduction
NITI Aayog is the premier policy-making body of the Government of India.
It was established on 1 January 2015 by replacing Planning Commission.
Its main purpose is to promote cooperative federalism and provide strategic and
technical advice to the Centre and States.
Why NITI Aayog Was Formed?
● Planning Commission used the old Five-Year Plan system.
● India needed a policy body that is flexible, modern, and technology-driven.
● To give states more power in planning and decision-making.
● To focus on long-term national development and innovation.
Composition of NITI Aayog
● Chairperson: Prime Minister of India
● Vice-Chairperson: Appointed by the PM
● Full-time Members
● Part-time Members (from universities & research institutes)
● Ex-officio Members (selected Union Ministers)
● CEO: Appointed by the Prime Minister
