POLICY (DPSP)
Meaning
Directive Principles of State Policy are guidelines given to the central and state
governments on how to run the country in a just, fair, and welfare-oriented manner.
They are written in Part IV of the Constitution (Articles 36–51).
Nature (Characteristics)
● DPSP are non-justiciable → cannot be enforced by courts.
● They are positive obligations on the state.
● Inspired by the Irish Constitution.
● Aim to establish a Welfare State in India.
● They give moral and political direction to governments.
TYPES OF DPSP
DPSPs are divided into three major categories:
1. Socialistic Principles
These aim to create an equal and just society based on welfare.
● Secure right to adequate means of livelihood for all.
● Prevent concentration of wealth and ensure economic equality.
● Provide equal pay for equal work for men and women.
● Protect the health of workers, children, and women.
● Provide opportunities for education and public assistance.
● Promote social justice and reduce inequalities.
