(SPSC)
Introduction
A State Public Service Commission (SPSC) is an independent constitutional body in
every Indian State.
Its main function is to recruit candidates for state-level civil services and advise the
state government on related matters.
It is established under Article 315 of the Constitution.
Constitutional Provisions
● Articles 315 to 323 deal with both UPSC and SPSC.
● Every State has its own SPSC (e.g., UPPSC, MPSC, BPSC, RPSC, etc.).
● For two or more states, a Joint State Public Service Commission can also be
created.
Composition
● Consists of a Chairman and several Members.
● All members are appointed by the Governor of the State.
Tenure
● Members hold office for 6 years or until they reach 62 years of age (whichever is
earlier).
● A member can resign by writing to the Governor.
● Removal is done by the President of India, not by the Governor, to ensure
independence.
