◉ Digoxin. Answer: if HR lowers to <60 then hold med. can also cause
yellowing of eyes, bradycardia, abd. pain & halos around the eyes
(digoxin toxicity)


◉ Ciprofloxacin. Answer: can cause tendon rupture especially in those
w/ tendonitis


◉ Heparin. Answer: if plt. level is < 100,000 it may mean heparin-
induced thrombocytopenia


◉ Oxytocin. Answer: late decelerations can put the fetus @ risk for
uteroplacental insufficiency so place pt. in lateral position


◉ fluoxetine. Answer: SSRI antidepressant that causes muscle
twitching, abnormal dreams, erectile dysfunction, & hallucinations


◉ Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate (Kayexalate). Answer: used for
hyperkalemia & may cause fecal impaction (constipation)


◉ Metoclopramide. Answer: antiemetic that can cause sedative effect
due to effect on the CNS. It is a dopamine agonist. Monitor sedation.

, ◉ Bupropion. Answer: antidepressant & smoking cessation aid. It can
cause insomnia, bradykinesia, vision & hearing change.


◉ Donepezil. Answer: anti-cholinesterase med used for Parkinson's
Disease. It can cause dyspnea, dizziness, dyspepsia, and diarrhea but
dyspnea is biggest concern (ABC).


◉ Cyclobenzaprine. Answer: it's a muscle relaxant used to treat muscle
spasms. Should taper off meds before discontinuing it completely to
prevent abstinence syndrome or rebound insomnia. It's an
anticholinergic too, so urinary retention & dry mouth can occur


◉ Oxybutynin. Answer: anticholinergic that causes dry mouth, dry eyes,
and blurred vision due to increased IOP.


◉ Methylprednisolone. Answer: steroid used for MS, watch blood
glucose, stay away from sick people & grapefruit juice can increase
blood levels of med


◉ Haloperidol. Answer: antipsychotic med that can cause neuroleptic
malignant syndrome which shows s/s: high temp, muscle rigidity,
tachycardia, altered LOC, & incontinence
