SIADH
Give this one a try later!
- increase in antidiuretic hormone = decrease in UOP- Hyponatremia (can
increase cerebral edema bc holding onto fluid)
Multiple Sclerosis
,Give this one a try later!
What is it?
- chronic progressive degenerative disorder of CNS
-Characterized by demylenation of nerve fibers of the brain
and can happen in the spinal cord
- Remissions and exacerbations (Remission: some myelin
may be regenerated) ( exacerbations: myelin is destroyed)
Who Gets It?
- 20-50 years old (women > men)
What Causes It?
- Unknown: genetic predisposition, environmental factors
that may trigger it
- Precipitating factors: infection, physical injury, extreme
state of stress or fatigue, pregnancy
- Temperate climates - People are more affected by MS
than other regions
Spinal Cord Tumors
Give this one a try later!
, - Primary and Secondary
- Can be outside of SC, within the dura but not inside the SC, or within the
SC
- Slow growing
- S/s depend on location : Back Pain (most common symptom pts complain
about) ( motor weakness, sensory disturbances)
- Dexamethasone, Surgery - Primary treatment, Radiation and chemo
- Rehab Similar to SCI
Acute Care (Parkinson's)
Give this one a try later!
- Usually due to respiratory infection of crisis
- Make sure airway stays patent
- Maintain ventilation, fluid, medication therapy (corticosteroids)
- Food choices - easy to chew and swallow ( ideal to schedule medicine for
peak onset during meal time)
- Teaching ( preveneting exacerbation, take meds need to know s/s of
Myasthenia crisis and cholenegic crisis)
Parkinsonism
Give this one a try later!
, S/S of Parkinson's caused by something else - toxins, another disease,
illegal drugs
Phases of a seizure
Give this one a try later!
- Prodromal: signs or activities that precedes a seizure
(mood changes, didn't sleep well night before, more
irritable)(days or hours before, subtle changes)
- Aural: sensory warning that happens right before onset,
see hear smell or taste something, have deja vu.
- Ictal: full seizure phase
- Post Ictal: right after seizure and recovery time
