Hypertension
Systemic Arterial Hypertension (commonly simplified as Hypertension)
has been one of the most associated comorbidities in relation to
development of conditions such as cerebrovascular accident (stroke),
myocardial infarction, heart diseases, and renal diseases to name a few
(Iqbal & Jamal, 2023). The paper aims to provide an in-depth insight on how
prevalent the aforementioned condition in the context of United States is and
investigate how far the country and/or state has been performing in
combating the pandemic.
Overview, Background and Significance of the Problem
Hypertension, or also referred to as High Blood Pressure, is defined as
having a consistently abnormally elevated blood pressure even at rest
(Desai, 2020). According to National Health Statistics Reports of Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (2024),
48.1 % of adults aged 18 onwards are diagnosed with Hypertension
(measured above normal blood pressure and/or taking maintenance
medication for hypertension) in the US alone. Ranking 13th on United States’
leading cause of death, essential hypertension, and hypertensive renal
disorders has a crude rate of 13 in a population of 100,000 people and has
killed 43,293 individuals currently.
According to the Department of Health (2023), current data available
presents that in New Jersey, 27% of adults have Hypertension with 32.6%
Male and 25.3% Female diagnosed with the condition. The distribution of
