Introduction
The Attorney General of India (AGI) is the highest law officer of the country.
He is the chief legal advisor to the Government of India and represents the government in
the Supreme Court and other courts.
He is appointed under Article 76 of the Constitution.
Appointment
● Appointed by the President of India.
● Must be a person qualified to be a Judge of the Supreme Court.
(i.e., 5 years High Court judge OR 10 years High Court advocate OR eminent jurist)
Term & Tenure
● The Constitution does not fix any specific tenure.
● Holds office during the pleasure of the President.
● Can be removed anytime by the President.
● Can resign by giving resignation to the Government.
Functions of Attorney General
