Chocolat, Joanne Harris.
1. Select a passage or quote from the book that appeals to
you or that you thought significant. Describe or quote and
explain your choice.
The quote I have chosen is:
“After a while you just have to stop. It’s pointless. Hiding
behind justifications, setting short-term goals to see out the
week. After a while it’s the lack of dignity that hurts more
than anything else. You need to rest”
Vianne and her daughter have always wandered around,
they never stayed in one place. She and her daughter
Anouk never created a home somewhere, and Vianne
realizes that she has to stop wandering around, and finally
settle somewhere. She realizes that her daughter needed it,
she needed a place she could call home instead of always
wandering around. I think the quote is beautiful, because
sometimes you just need to stop. You need to stop
wandering around and wasting time. You need to find a
place or someone you can call home. She also talks about
short-term goals. I think goals are very important, because
goals can work as a motivation. Goals are quite important to
me, because I am very set on achieving them. To me they
work as a great motivation and I find it almost satisfying
when I achieve a goal. Thats why I can’t really see myself
wander around, not knowing what next week might bring.
But I found it very interesting to read about someone who is
, not set on long-term goals and does not necessarily want to
settle down.
2. Make two lists. 1 for things in or about the book that you
liked (at least 3) and one for thing that you didn’t like (at
