What is Active and Passive Voice?
Active and passive voice are two ways to show actions in a sentence. The
difference is all about who is doing the action and who is receiving it.
• Active voice: The subject (the doer) performs the action.
Example: Riya baked a cake. Means, Riya is doing the baking.
• Passive voice: The subject receives the action, and sometimes the doer is
optional or unknown.
Example: A cake was baked by Riya. Means, the cake is the focus, and Riya is
mentioned later.
In short: active is doer-focused and passive is receiver-focused.

When Should You Use Active and Passive Voice
Exercises?
Both active and passive voices are used for different purposes. The active voices
make up the sentence structure wherein, the subject of the sentence performs
actions and the object receives them. Usage of active voice is a way to
express who or what is doing the action.
On the other hand, passive voice makes up the sentence structure where
the object of the action becomes the subject of the sentence and the doer of the
action is placed at the end of the sentence. The main focus in one sentence is on
the action or when does is less important.
