, Biochemistry
Definition of biochemistry:
Biochemistry is the combination of two words- one is "Bio" and another is
"Chemistry", "Bio" means life and "Chemistry" means the science of chemicals.
Actually, Biochemistry is science concerned with the various biomolecules such as
carbohydrates, proteins, lipids etc., those occur in living cells and organisms with
their chemical reaction.
Importance of biochemistry:
Biochemistry is a field that has immense importance today. This field of study
combines both biology and chemistry as equal components. When one studies
biochemistry, he will come to have an intimate knowledge about the function as
well as structure of molecular components within the human body. The structures
of other types of biological and cellular components are studied in detail as well.
Importance of biochemistry in medicine or medical science:
(a) Biochemistry helps one understand the biochemical changes and related
physiological alteration in the body.
(b) Pathology of any disease is studied through biochemical changes.
(c) Many people rely in taking multivitamin and minerals for better health. The
function and role of vitamin is described only by biochemistry.
(d) The formation and role of hormones in the normal body function is taught in
biochemistry by which the physician can understand the concerned problem during
treatment.
Importance of biochemistry in nursing:
(a) The diagnosis of any clinical condition is easily possible by biochemical
estimations.
, For example, urine test, blood test for condition like diabetes, liver disorders,
kidney disorders etc.
(b) For instance, a biochemistry test namely blood glucose level helps one
understand the severity of diabetes disorder.
Another biochemical test for ketone bodies in urine also indicates the stage of
diabetes.
(c) Liver function tests help understand the type of disease or damage to liver.
(d) Evaluation of blood cholesterol level and other lipoproteins helps understand
the proneness of the patient to cardiovascular diseases.
Quality control
Definition Quality control:
Quality control is a procedure to ensure that a manufactured product meets the
requirements of the customer.
Classification of quality control:
(a) SQC (Statistical quality control).
(b) TQC (Total quality control): Involvement of departments in addition
production-
(i) Accounting
(ii) Design
(iii) Finance
(iv) Human resource
(c) SPC (Statistical process control0.
(d) CWQC (Companywide quality control).
(e) TQM (Total quality management).
