Not all accepted methods have been shown - this document is intended to be a guide to good
practice, indicating where marks are given for correct answers. As such, it doesn’t always show
follow-through marks (marks that are awarded despite errors being made) or special cases.
We have chosen the most common methods that we see students use … it is OK to have other
ways too and in fact there may be alternative methods of finding correct solutions that are not

have shown the marks where they could be allocated should you not get all the marks available
to illustrate how important it is that all your working out is shown.

CAO Correct answer only which means no other answer will be awarded marks.
OE Or equivalent. This means that other forms of the solution (if it’s correct) will be
accepted. This is usually seen when answers can be in the form of fractions, decimals
