The case study aims to be aware and present the children’s behavioral changes towards online media. Qualitative data from the transcript were collected and then prepared for coding to yield themes that parents explain the behavioral changes towards online media of their children. The central question was, “What are the children’s behavioral changes towards online media? Four themes were found after analysis of data: social media is a source of information, parents’ interaction with their children, leisure time, and online media limitations. A pattern such as parents’ interaction, social media is a source of information, leisure time, and online media limitations were observed from collecting data. A practical point, this reflects on the effects of online media on the children in their behavior. The results and discussion of the study be utilized as a springboard for being aware of children and parents of using online media.

ABSTRACT: The case study aims to be aware and present the children’s behavioral changes towards
online media. Qualitative data from the transcript were collected and then prepared for coding to yield
themes that parents explain the behavioral changes towards online media of their children. The central
question was, “What are the children’s behavioral changes towards online media? Four themes were
found after analyzation of data: social media is a source of information, parents’ interaction with their
children, leisure time, and online media limitations. A pattern such as parents’ interaction, social media
is a source of information, leisure time, and online media limitations were observed from collecting
data. A practical point, this reflects on the effects of online media on the children in their behavior. The
results and discussion of the study be utilized as a springboard for being aware of children and parents
of using online media.

1. INTRODUCTION
Social media are web-based online tools that allow individuals to find and learn new
information, share thoughts, connected with unused individuals and organizations. For the
fourth straight year, the Philippines is top in worldwide social media use. (Gonzales, 2019)

The researchers have thoroughly observed how children are addicted to online media
and how it affects children’s behavior.

Online media is one of the factors that affect and brought major changes in the
children’s behavior and lifestyle. Filipino children spend more time using online media and all
videos and images are not suitable for their age especially those types of programs that
contain heavy themes on violence, death, sex, drugs, and revenge that usually Children's
imitate what they are watching. Children lead to internet addiction that will change the
developing brain structure, leading to poor academic achievements, involvement in dangerous
activities, unhealthy nutritional habits, poor personal relationships, attention seeker, and self-
injurious activities. (“How Social Media Can Influence Children Behavior?”, 2018).

Three, complementary, theories help to explain why extensive social media use may
harm children’s well-being. All these theories draw on research from both economics and
psychology, and it is likely that they are not mutually exclusive, but rather that all of them
contribute to altered well-being in individuals who use social media. The first, which we term
‘social comparison’ theory, posits that increased social media use is linked to more frequent
social comparisons with others (Zuo, 2014). These comparisons are more likely to be ‘upward’
(negative) in direction, given that the material people choose to present online represents
selectively idealized versions of their true appearance, activities, and achievements

(Mendelson & Papacharissi, 2010). Zuo (2014) reported negative associations between daily
Facebook use and measures of self-esteem, which were explained by increased social
comparisons. Furthermore, a growing body of research attests to the mediating role of envy
in the relationship between Facebook use and decreased affective well-being (e.g., Tandoc
Jr. et al., 2015; Verduyn et al., 2015). In economic research, social comparisons, largely
related to relative income, are an important determinant of subjective wellbeing. A second
theory, which we call ‘finite resources’, suggests that extensive time spent on social media
encroaches on other activities known to be beneficial for psychological well-being, such as six
face-to-face socializing, sports or exercise participation, and mental relaxation (Moreno et al.,
2013; Wallsten, 2013). Recent work has shown that the link between Facebook use and
subsequent negative mood may be mediated by the interpretation that people have wasted
their time on a meaningless activity (Sagioglu & Greitemeyer, 2014), and there is evidence
that passive use of social networking is worse for wellbeing than active usage (e.g., Verduyn
et al., 2015). A third theory, which we call ‘cyberbullying’, relates to the fact that children who
spend more time on social networks have a greater chance of being the victim of cyberbullying
or direct attacks from others on their sense of self, well-being, and self-esteem. Sampasa-
Kanyinga and Hamilton (2015) reported a significant increase in the odds of being victimized
for every hour spent using social networking sites. Cyberbullying is associated with negative
impacts on children’s emotional health and well-being (Cowie, 2013). (McDool et al., 2016)
In the problem presented in this research, the focal point of this study is to know the
behavioral changes of the children and their habit in using online media. Specifically, this
sought to answer the following questions: (1) What are the online habit of the children? (2)
How does social media affect the behaviors of the children? (3) What are the methods or
strategies do parents use to keep away their children from online media habits? By hearing
the various experiences faced by the parents with their children being affected by social media
is a term of behavioral changes and their habits using social media, the researchers hope to
find solutions that may be a great help to the parents and children.

The researchers assume that the respondents will derive the following responses: (1)
due to lack of awareness of the children and guidance of the parents is the result of behavioral
changes of the children if the parents let their children using social media (2) To lessen the
children’s addiction in social media, parents will limit their children using gadgets and focus
their children on some activities like interacting in other kids without using social media.
This study is to comprise children’s behavior toward online habits. The behavior of
