Police Constable Officers responsible for responding to emergency 999 calls,
investigating possible criminal activities; detaining, arresting, and
processing criminals (both proven and suspect) as well as providing the
initial action at the scene of emergency and major incidents.

They also carry out a tremendous amount of community-based work to
develop methods to solve and prevent long-standing issues.
Police Sergeant Monitor and evaluate teams of Officers, overseeing daily procedures,
activities and operations carried out.

Additionally, Sergeants complete a number of administrative duties
such as investigating and monitoring management concerns and take
initial command over critical/major incidents.
Inspector Monitor, command and evaluate officers within a station, overseeing
local policing operations such as Official raids and warranted arrests.

Monitors and holds command over every officer that is on duty during
their working hours but is however the Senior operational officer 24/7.

Typically, a singular Inspector will hold the title of “duty inspector” and
will remain responsible for operational command during all times.
Chief Inspector Typically, within any given borough, two or three Inspectors are likely to
be present/stationed. Their duties require them to monitor and
evaluate operations and work carried out by Policing Units.

These Units may include; “Response Teams” and / or “Police
Neighbourhood Teams” or “CID / Investigations / Offender
Management”.
Superintendent Up to two Superintendents are typically stationed within a Borough.
They hold responsibility to monitor, develop and/or suggest methods to
implement Operations carried out across the Borough, Criminal
activities and Partnerships, both with Communities, Organisations and
other Forces.

Hold Certain statutory authorities that enable them to present
themselves and fulfil the role of senior public order or firearms
commanders.
Chief Commander of set policing area and/or headquarters.
Superintendent
They are solely responsible for the policing activity within their area,
reporting to the Chief Constable.

They are likely to be held accountable for any Poor results and/or
failures etc made by the Officers/Forces within their area.

Also known as the ‘local police chief’, they hold the Senior responsibility
to monitor, develop and/or implement Operations carried out across
the Borough, Criminal activities and Partnerships, both with
Communities, Organisations and other Forces

, Assistant Chief Depending on the size of the County(S)/borough(S) they represent and
Constable oversee, up to five Assistant Chiefs can be stationed within a Force.

ACC’s typically create and present portfolios containing data and
evaluations on agendas including Criminal activities, Operational
procedures and territorial Policing responsibilities/roles.
Deputy Chief The Senior Officer that holds disciplinary authority and the second in
Constable command of the entire Force within a Borough.

Assists with the creation, implementation and changes of Policing
Policies. Monitor, command and evaluate the force and its performance
as a whole.

Excluding London, there is one Deputy Chief Constable appointed in
each Borough.
Chief Constable The head of Policing operations, procedures and decision making. Chief
Constables appointed to larger Forces have typically been stationed as
CC in smaller Force beforehand. Garry Forsyth, recently promoted to
Chief Constable of Bedfordshire in July 2019 was previously Deputy
Chief Constable in Humberside.
