AGRONOMY and AGRICULTURE
Agronomy is the branch of agricultural science that deals with field crop production and management of soil, water, and other inputs to get maximum economic yield. It covers cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fibre, sugar, fodder and focuses on planning cropping systems, input use, and timing of operations. The notes explain controllable factors (irrigation, fertilizers, tillage, seed, weeds, sowing time) and uncontrollable factors (climate, rainfall, temperature) that affect crop production.Core sections include soil and tillage, good seed bed, seed quality, seed rate, sowing methods and spacing, organic manures, chemical fertilizers, NPK recommendations and integrated nutrient management.Irrigation part covers types (surface, sprinkler, drip), critical stages for major crops, crop water requirement and water‑saving practices like mulching and micro‑irrigation.Weed section defines weeds, major weeds of important crops, crop‑weed competition, and cultural, mechanical, chemical and biological control methods with key herbicide examples. Finally, it lists important agricultural research institutes, explains different cropping systems (mono‑cropping, rotation, intercropping, relay, ratoon), and highlights high‑frequency MCQ topics and a quick revision checklist for IBPS AFO, NABARD and similar exams .
