Wash your hands before and after going to the bathroom. 3. Wipe yourself from front to back to avoid infection. 4. Take sitz baths in a clean bathtub with shallow water or use a plastic sitz tub that fits in the toilet. Use warm water to soothe soreness, or cold water to reduce swelling. 5. Try squirting warm water from a bottle onto your vagina while you urinate. This prevents stinging and helps keep the area clean. 6. Apply witch hazel compresses and anesthetic numbness spray. 7. Use a donut- shaped foam ring for sitting. 8. Avoid lifting anything heavier than your baby, and limit stair climbing. 9. Rest. Let family and friends help you care for yourself and your baby. 10. No sexual intercourse, cooking, gym, stairs for the next 6 weeks. (Erica Montes, 2019)
