Introduction
Leadership is an art that gives people an influence relationship with a fundamental way of
thinking, understanding and perceiving the world. Leadership revolves around achieving a
common goal and captures the essentials of being able to inspire others in a given setting.
Effective leadership is built upon both inherited and original attributes and behaviours that are
communicated to others to act to the common good of an organization, departmental, learning, or
general leadership of a country. In a nutshell, leadership encompasses the components of
influence, intention, change, shared purpose, followers, and personal responsibility and integrity.
This discussion will outline my understanding of essential leadership, and behavioural aspects
would make an outstanding leader as well as explaining their implication in my personal and
professional development.
Leadership is typically defined and inclined towards the values, attributes, and personal
behaviour that make one outstanding. My understanding of a complete and adequate leader is
based upon these fundamental principles which help define someone's potential from just a
younger age. The new reality of leadership requires that one be a change manager, facilitator,
collaborator, and show diversity and humility in the leadership paradigm. For one to become an
outstanding leader, there are universal attributes and behaviours that one needs to portray or
demonstrate in any given setting. This is attributable to possess various unique characteristics on
social, personal, and work-related importance. The attributes also stem down to the individual's
personality, intelligence and ability, and the broad intellectual background. The person should
also be able to know his/her strengths, which would aid in objective problem-solving and should
