UNIT: 16
HUMAN
RESOURCE
MANAGEMENT
,P1
Introduction to the unit
In this unit I will mainly be introducing and exploring the methods of
managing the department of human resources in an organization. I will
have an in-depth use of knowledge with regards to the human resources
management theory and associate it with the current human resource
management practices in most of the multinational operating
organizations. I will be assessing the HR practices that Carrefour as an
organization undergoes and processes. This will thus, further be included
in the annual report of Carrefour.
Carrefour
Carrefour is one of the world's
leading hypermarket and grocery
chains. The company was established
in the region in the year 1995 by
Majid Al Futtaim, the only franchisee
to run Carrefour in 38 countries
throughout the Middle East, Africa
and Asia. In 1995, Carrefour
launched the first hypermarket in the
City Centre of Deira UAE and, over
the years, grew to more than 175
Carrefour stores in 15 countries
around the world, servicing more
than 200,000 customers a day.
Carrefour runs various hypermarkets and supermarkets to satisfy the
rising demands of its varied consumer base. The company was originally a
smaller entity but is still known to be one of the big productive companies
in the sector and has evolved over a decade. The company already
provides innovative and updated goods and services and is very effective
in achieving a higher degree of consumer loyalty, which is difficult without
an exemplary human resource preparation. In line with the brand's
dedication to provide the largest variety of premium items and value for
money, Carrefour currently provides an unrivalled option of more than
100,000 food and non-food items as well as thousands of household
goods. Carrefour is committed to thanking its loyal consumers and
providing year-round exposure to an exclusive and enjoyable shopping
experience through exclusive deals and promotions. Carrefour is
dedicated to sustained market expansion in strategic places throughout
the Middle East, Africa and Asia, generating amazing moments for
everybody every day. Carrefour was founded in 1995 in the United Arab
Emirates. Today Carrefour runs 28 hypermarkets, 43 stores, and
employing over 9200 of colleagues.
, Internal planning factors
Internal planning factors are those aspects that are related to what is
occurring within the company. There are aspects that take place within an
enterprise and can influence the needs of human resources in terms of
the expertise needed. The company is constantly evolving, and the HR
department has to keep up, for example, as demand for goods increases,
the labour requirement required in other jobs will also increase. Internal
preparation factors will usually involve:
Workforce
Technologic profile
Skills al change
Budget requirement
Organizatio
nal Needs
Organizational Needs
A company must always act accordingly for future goods and services, so
this may impact the need to either raise or decrease the number of
workers required. As my company has developed and grown in the last 10
years, new innovations have been launched to draw more customers. One
of the latest services offered by West Zone is selecting and collecting
where customers can buy on the platform and pick up their grocery
stores. The organizational needs are governed by both contracting and
expanding. There by, for Carrefour the similar situation occurs. This
included various categories of employees. The Human Resources
Department needed to hire the most suitable form of management to
perform its functions. Various positions needed specific managers, such as
employees who have skilful strategies to interact face-to-face with clients
or workers who have excellent IT experience to run the administration
team. Carrefour will have to hire a whole new team of people with
excellent IT experience to operate the company's website and online
market. All these operational requirements enable Carrefour to improve
its strategy. this offers the enterprise the opportunity to accomplish its
goals, which will contribute to further progress. In fact, the human
resource may allow the organisation to identify roles that are not essential
or appropriate, so the role can be eliminated by the human resource, or
where there is a vacancy in an company that has not yet been delegated
to someone, they will recruit an person to do the work. If that has been
completed, the business will be more structured. The Human Resources
Department will address the demands of the skilled employees that are
required by Carrefour so that they can continue to expand and increase
their pace of growth.
, Budget
This is also known as a key budget factor or a limiting budget factor and
is a factor that will limit the activities of an organization. This limits
production, such as sales, materials or labour. Sales budget includes a
realistic sales forecast. Human resource management can take place
within the framework budget approved by the management in order to
increase the profit that is being generated. The HR team needs to plan on
optimally utilizing its current manpower in order to reduce the budgetary
requirements with regard to manpower management for global
expansions. Carrefour must keep their expenses within the estimated
budget. A small company will keep in mind that seasonal requests for new
employees or the requirement for specialist expertise have an effect on
recruiting strategies. However, in order to improve profitability or
enhance efficiency and satisfaction, a company should schedule activities
and, where there is a lack of financial capital in a small enterprise running
Human Resources services, it will offset them by supplying free support
for career growth, health of the employees as well as team building. In
addition, certain costs, such as the wages or housing of workers, must be
addressed by Carrefour and not only the recruiting and preparation of
workers. Therefore, issues will occur with financial stability companies
because they choose to invest more than their target, which is more likely
to happen, because there is a risk that Carrefour may not be in a strong
financial condition and thus it is crucial if the corporation will not invest
more than its target. To conclude with, the HR Department of Carrefour,
it is important to ensure that they operate under the budget offered when
recruiting specialist workers so that they will not compete with the profit
margin of the business.
