STRANGE CASE OF DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE
Chapter 1
Mr. Gabriel Utterson is a good lawyer and a reliable friend. Every Sunday he enjoys a walk with
his distant relative, Mr. Richard En eld. On this occasion, En eld points out a sinister building and
tells out about a strange incident that happened recently. En eld had been walking home when
he saw a man deliberately trample and stomp on a little girl. The man then walked away as if
nothing had happened and enraged, En eld dragged the repulsive villain back to the scene
where a crowd had now gathered. To calm the angry mob the man agreed to pay compensation
to the girl’s family: he disappeared into the very door En eld and Utterson now stood at and
emerged with a check and some gold. Strangely, the check wasn’t signed in the man’s name, but
it still cleared at the bank. En eld says that the man’s name was Mr. Edward Hyde, and then
Utterson admits his own little secret. He knows who signed that check then swears Mr. En eld to
secrecy.
Chapter 2
That evening, Mr. Utterson feels uneasy and retrieves Dr. Jekyll’s will from his safe. Dr. Jekyll is an

Jekyll dies or disappears for more than three months, Mr. Hyde gets everything. Why would Jekyll
say disappear? Is he in danger? And why would a villain like Mr. Hyde have such a hold on Dr.
Jekyll?
Mr. Utterson then visits another old friend, Dr. Lanyon to see if he knows anything. Lanyon admits
that he and Dr. Jekyll have grown apart,: he deplores Dr. Jekyll’s meddling and unscienti c
nonsense. Lanyon also never heard of Hyde.
