Field Expert Interview
An interview was carried out with a respondent, who works at Herzing University as a
Diversity and Inclusion Specialist. She has over 15 years of work experience in education and
holds a Master's in Education, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy. The respondent was selected to
be interviewed since she has extensive experience in inclusive teaching practices and is
knowledgeable about culturally responsive teaching (CRT). She brings a lot of knowledge and
experience in the subject that can only add value in understanding how CRT affects diverse
student populations.

1. Would you explain your experience with CRT? How did it impact how you work with a
diverse population of learners?
Answer: I have been using CRT for many years. It has helped me connect with students from
different backgrounds through understanding their culture, values, and needs. It has made me
more cognizant of how I can modify my teaching to make all students feel included and valued.
2. How would you define CRT? Why do you think CRT is important in fulfilling the needs
of diverse students?
Answer: I would define CRT as the acknowledgment and respect of the cultural differences that
learners bring into the classroom. CRT is really crucial. Embracing CRT makes every learner
feel safe and understood. This influences their learning outcomes significantly.
3. What strategies do you incorporate to make your teaching inclusive for all cultural
backgrounds?
Answer: I employ various strategies that include articulating diverse perspectives in my lessons.
I use materials that represent various cultures. Besides, I encourage learners to share their
