• Internal carotid artery & its
branches.
• Causes of Occlusion:
• Intrinsic vessel disease (e.g.,
atherosclerosis, dissection).
• Embolic occlusion
(artery-to-artery, cardiac, unknown
source).
, • Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA)
Stroke
• Main cause: Embolus (more
common than intracranial
atherothrombosis).
• Proximal MCA (M1 Segment)
Branches:
• Lenticulostriate arteries →
supply putamen, outer globus
pallidus, posterior limb of
internal capsule, corona
radiata, most of caudate
nucleus.
• M2 Branches (Superior &
Inferior Divisions):
• Superior division → Frontal &
superior parietal cortex.
• Inferior division → Inferior
parietal & temporal cortex.
