ASSIGNMENT 3 2026
UNIQUE NO.
DUE DATE: 2026
, QUESTION 1: LEARNER DIVERSITY
1.1 What is meant by the term “diversity” in an educational context? (2)
In an educational context, diversity refers to the wide range of differences that exist among
learners in a classroom setting. These differences may include cultural background, language,
ethnicity, gender, religion, socioeconomic status, abilities, disabilities, and individual learning
preferences. In inclusive education, diversity is recognised as a valuable aspect of teaching and
learning, where educators acknowledge and respect these differences in order to create equal
learning opportunities for all students.
1.2 What does access to the curriculum mean for learners? (2)
Access to the curriculum refers to the extent to which all learners are able to meaningfully
engage with teaching content, learning activities, and assessment tasks regardless of their
individual needs or barriers. It means that schools and teachers must ensure that learning
materials, teaching methods, and classroom environments are adapted or supported so that every
learner can participate fully. This may include providing additional support, differentiated
instruction, or assistive resources to ensure that no learner is excluded from learning
opportunities.
