the following list A-F and consider how each level of the environment may affect development, including

sentences.

A. the effects of divorce
B. child abuse and neglect
C. quality of childcare
D. the obesity epidemic
E. public policies for children
F. sex education programs in the schools.

Bronfenbrenner (1917–2005) views the child as
developing within a complex system of relationships
affected by multiple levels of the surrounding
environment.
Name Topic Chosen from Above: Quality of Childcare (Worth 6 pts)
1. Microsystem:
(Worth 3 pts—must be 4-6 sentences)
The quality of childcare directly affects a child’s microsystem. Low-quality childcare, including inattentive
care takers and minimal interaction, can negatively affect a child’s development. This could cause a child to
experience negative development in relationships with parents, future care takers, and other children.
High-quality childcare, including high engagement and attentiveness, can positively affect a child’s
development. This could help a child to have positive familial relationships, achieve developmental
milestones, instill trust in the child of their care takers, and in all other relationships. A child receiving high
quality childcare would most likely have more positive behavior at home as well, which would have a
positive impact on the parent’s microsystem.
2. Exosystem: (Worth 3 pts—must be 4-6 sentences)
