Question 1

Define the following concepts:

(a) Management

Management refers to the process of planning, organizing, coordinating, and controlling
resources and activities within an organization to achieve specific goals and objectives. It
involves making decisions, allocating resources, setting objectives, and monitoring
progress to ensure efficient and effective utilization of resources and the accomplishment
of organizational goals.

(b) Leadership
Leadership is the ability to influence, motivate, and guide individuals or groups towards
achieving common goals. It involves providing a clear vision, setting direction, and
inspiring others to work collaboratively towards shared objectives. Leadership includes
traits such as communication skills, decision-making abilities, integrity, and the capacity to
inspire and empower others.

(c) Africanisation
Africanisation is a concept that emerged in the context of post-colonial Africa. It refers to
the process of promoting African cultural, political, economic, and social values, practices,
and institutions. Africanisation aims to decolonize African societies, reclaim indigenous
knowledge, foster African identity and unity, and reduce external influence by embracing
African languages, traditions, customs, and governance systems.
(d) Diversity
Diversity refers to the presence of a wide range of individual differences within a particular
group, organization, or society. These differences can include but are not limited to
aspects such as race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic
status, physical abilities, and cultural backgrounds. Embracing diversity involves
recognizing, respecting, and valuing these differences, and promoting inclusion and
equality.
