Learners in South African Schools are experiencing Gender Based Violence (GBV) within
the school premises.
The latest media reports indicate that teachers are also involved in assaulting female
and male learners at schools. Learners are sleeping with teachers to get better marks.

a) List 5 types of GBV that female learners are experiencing at school and at home:
ANSWER:
1. Physical violence:
This includes any form of physical harm or force inflicted upon female learners. It can
involve hitting, slapping, punching, or any other acts of physical aggression that
cause bodily harm.
2. Sexual violence:
This refers to any non-consensual sexual act or behavior that is forced upon female
learners. It can include rape, sexual assault, unwanted touching, harassment, or any
form of sexual coercion.
3. Emotional or psychological violence:
This type of violence involves behaviors aimed at undermining the emotional well-
being of female learners. It includes verbal abuse, threats, humiliation, intimidation,
constant criticism, or any other actions that cause psychological distress.
4. Bullying or peer violence:
Female learners may experience bullying or peer violence, which can be physical,
verbal, or relational in nature. This can include acts of aggression, exclusion,
spreading rumors, or social manipulation, leading to the victim's emotional or social
harm.
5. Child marriage or forced marriage:
In some cases, female learners may be subjected to child marriage or forced
marriage, either at home or within their communities. This practice deprives them of
their rights to education, personal development, and a safe childhood.
