--> Tsar (Nicholas II) hoped the war would lead to all the Russians also hating
Germany. Instead they started losing the war and the Russians got angry at Tsar,
because of:
 Ruled by tsars
Tsars – absolute monarchs, you got absolute power given by god. Duma
had nothing to say. They also lost large areas of land for agriculture
 Inequality
Huge contrast between rich and poor cities, no democracy. Difference
Bourgeoise and noblemen
 Slow industrialization
Causing; a bad army, large but not strong because they were farmer

The February revolution happened because of people protesting against the war.
Even the army united with the protestors.

-->During this there was a group called Bolsheviks who were a small radical
group of activists. The leader of them was Lenin. Secret German service hired
him to weaken Russia in the 1st war and to make them withdraw from the war. In
exchange he got a lot of money to start his long wanted 2nd revolution.

-->This led to October revolution. Socialists created Petrograd soviet
representing workers and soldiers. The soviet was led by Lenin and the
Bolsheviks and sent soldiers and Red guard (armed laborer’s) forces to occupy
important buildings. Bolsheviks later renamed their party the Communist party.
