Maintaining a Healthy Weight
Define BMI-You must define BMI and not just as a general definition indicating its
relationship toheight and weight. Please also do not forget to define the actual term BMI!
Part 1: BMI
A healthy weight is very important in our overall health. The BMI, or the Body Mass Index, is a
measurement of how an individual might possess excessive fat. An individual’s BMI can be
calculated in order to determine if the individual is under a healthy weight or not. BMI is the
widely used screening tool in deciding an individual’s overall health with regards to his/her
weight.
Calculate BMI-Many students use an automated calculator to complete this part of the
assignment. I will deduct points if I do not see the actual math calculations. Please include
all stages of the math calculations associated with determining your BMI.
Part 2: My BMI Calculations
The formula that I am using is from the Cancer.org website.
BMI = (your weight in pounds × 703) ÷ (your height in inches × your height in inches)
In order to calculate my BMI, I will take my weight and multiply it with 703:
280 x 703 = 196,840
Next, I will multiply my height to itself, squaring it:
68 x 68 = 4,624
Lastly, the final answer will be determined after dividing the results from the first step by the
following step:
