QUESTION 1 (Inductive and Deductive Reasoning and Common Logical
Fallacies)
Categorise the following statements into inductive and deductive reasoning.
Provide only the correct answer next to the question number. E.g. 1.1.11.
Inductive reasoning.
1.1.1. Inductive reasoning - The conclusion about larger samples is a generalisation
drawn from observing multiple articles.
1.1.2. Deductive reasoning - The argument moves from a general premise (all credible
studies are based on evidence) to a specific conclusion, this study is credible.
1.1.3. Inductive reasoning - The conclusion about regular practice is a probabilistic
generalisation based on observing a pattern "most students".
1.1.4. Deductive reasoning - The argument applies a general rule if an argument
contains fallacies, it is weak to a specific case to reach a certain conclusion.
1.1.5. Deductive reasoning - The conclusion is logically certain, derived from the
general premise that all valid conclusions must follow the evidence.
, 1.1.6. Inductive reasoning - The conclusion is a generalisation ("usually contributes")
based on a limited set of past observations (three projects).
1.1.7. Inductive reasoning - The argument draws a probable conclusion ("generally
improves") from observed instances of successful researchers.
1.1.8. Deductive reasoning - The conclusion is a logical necessity, applying the
conditional rule about biased methods to the specific case.
1.1.9. Deductive reasoning - The argument applies a universal rule (all plagiarism
violates integrity) to a specific action to reach a definite conclusion.
1.1.10. Inductive reasoning - The conclusion "often increase the accuracy" is a
generalised likelihood based on several experimental observations.
