Class notes SOLMEC 403 (In-situ Stresses)
These notes contains In-situ stresses are the natural stresses present in soil before any construction. They result from the weight of overlying soil, groundwater pressure, and geological history. These stresses include vertical and horizontal stresses and are expressed as total stress, pore water pressure, and effective stress. Understanding in-situ stresses is important for analyzing soil stability and designing foundations and earth structures.
