Power Skills SEI Skill Sets Scenario
Self-Awareness Growth mindset, mindfulness, After experiencing an exhausting morning at work
self-efficacy, self-confidence, due to increased number of COVID patients and
identifying emotions recognizing turning private rooms to semi-private I became
strengths, self-reflection, self- frustrated at a patient who didn't want a room-
compassion, optimism, gratitude, mate. I explained the situation to the patient and
patience the patient wasn't having it. I spent a few moments
identifying the reason of my emotional stress and
practice mindfulness. In the present moment I was
able to calmly step out of the room and go into my
office to mediate and go over the reasoning of why
the patient didn't want anyone else in the room. At
the end of the day the patient and I came in
conclusion that the reason not accepting of the
change was the fear of catching possibly COVID,
however, I explain the reason and the patient did
have a room-mate before the shift was over.
Self-Management Resilience, self-motivation, self- After working 11 years with my current employer as
discipline, goal setting, initiative a charge nurse, our hospital offered Clinical ladder
talking, stress management, time to nurses with two years of experience and charge
management, impulse control, nurses. I went ahead and started my portfolio and
attention to detail, self-care, inquire about the process. Ever since then I have
financial literacy been deemed an Expert nurse, Level IV at my job for
the last four years and I'm very proud of myself. I
have gone above and beyond and help numerous of
my co-workers achieved making our floor earning
the highest clinical ladder portfolios.
Interpersonal Compassion, caring, and Interpersonal communication is important in every
Communication consideration, active listening, nurse. As a charge nurse I possess the skills of
conflict resolution, verbal conflict resolution and active listening. I have had to
communication, written use these skills to calm angry patients and family
communication, digital and co-workers. Most of the time, active listening
communication, teamwork and leads to resolution. Most of the time, these people
collaboration, leading teams, just need an outlet to communicate their needs.
