Assignment 1
Semester 1
Due 7 April 2026
, QUESTION 1
Draft security procedures that should be followed at CDS for the protection of
employees and property/assets (computers and trucks).
Q1.1 What vehicle security procedures should be implemented?
CDS must install GPS tracking devices in all ten delivery trucks. Real time tracking
enables immediate response when a truck deviates from its route or stops
unexpectedly. This is a basic asset protection measure for high value cargo (Gill, 2014).
Each truck must also be fitted with a panic button linked to a 24 hour control room and
armed response. For example, if a hijacking attempt occurs, the driver can activate the
panic system without escalating the situation.
In addition, trucks should have immobilisers and remote engine cut off systems to
prevent further movement once hijacked. These measures reduce both asset loss and
recovery time.
Q1.2 What operational procedures should be introduced?
CDS must implement route risk assessment before dispatch. High crime zones in
Gauteng must be identified using SAPS crime statistics. Routes and delivery times must
be rotated to avoid predictability. Predictable schedules increase vulnerability because
offenders study routine patterns (SAPS, 2023).
High value loads such as computers worth R600 000 per trip should be escorted in
identified high risk areas. Escorts act as visible deterrents and reduce opportunity for
attack.
Pre departure vehicle inspections must be conducted daily. This ensures that tracking
systems, communication tools and emergency equipment are functional.
Q1.3 What employee protection procedures are required?
Drivers and assistants must receive anti hijacking awareness training. Training should
include defensive driving, situational awareness and correct response during an attack.
