INTRODUCTION
Community psychology is about improving people’s lives by working together,
promoting fairness, and encouraging active involvement in change. This assignment
looks at two community projects led by the Inside-out Outside-in South African
Corrections Interest Group at the University of South Africa. The first project involved
working with teachers at St Albans Correctional Centre during International
Teacher’s Day. The second focused on a fatherhood support group at Zonderwater
Correctional Centre. The discussion explains key principles of community
psychology and shows how they appear in these projects. It also offers practical
suggestions to strengthen these initiatives so that they can better support and uplift
people living and working in correctional environments.

Respect for Diversity
Respect for diversity acknowledges that individuals have the right to be different, and
that community programs should appreciate and incorporate various cultures,
identities, and experiences within a community.
Oppression and Power
This principle underscores the necessity of recognizing and confronting inequality
and unjust power dynamics in society, ensuring that all community members can
