ASSIGNMENT 6
1. My original answer was option E “We must save the rhino because it is the right thing to do”
I chose this option mainly because I believe any living and breathing creature has the right to life,
so this option seems to be the most humane or right (utilitarian) thing to do. We as humans
might not understand or know what the role of a rhino in terms of nature preservation is but I
believe it is there to serve some purpose in nature, otherwise God would not have created
animals.
2. My answer is still the same. It is my belief that rhinos have intrinsic value because they are
Gods creations just like us, if we as humans believe we have intrinsic value, what makes us
different from rhinos? Helping someone because of what that person can do for you in the
future is plainly wrong.
3. Virtue Ethics
3.1 Do I really practise the values I am describing?
Most of the times I try my best to practise them, obviously depending on the situation.
Example, a colleague that does not have something to eat for lunch, I would share mine with
him or her, I see a stray dog in the street I would call the SPCA, I would not take it home and
care for it myself because I dint need a dog but I would try mad get help for the dog.
3.2 Can I really claim that these are my virtues?
Yes, they are, it is what I believe in and the way I was raised.
3.3 is what I’m saying really what I do?
4. I think your preferred answer is your own opinion which you are entitle to, so it is not for me
to say it is wrong. You might feel that way because you do not have sufficient knowledge about
the relationship between rhinos and nature. So I did some research to try to make you see why
we should save rhinos.
