UPDATE 2026
The phases of the creative process - Answers Prepare, Develop, Create, Revise, Reflect
Prepare - Answers Research (conduct searches), Understand (Talk to experts, immerse yourself),
Reference (record experts, discover context)
Develop - Answers Plan (Select a storyboard, develop a schedule), Visualize (learn about the
audience, discuss and listen)
Create - Answers Produce (Gather assets, created content, problem-solve), Refine (Add and Remove
content, explore new visions)
Revise - Answers Critique (listen to advice, ask the audience, justify choices)
Reflect - Answers Gain insight (reflect on the process, identify areas for growth, celebrate areas of
success)
The Elements of Dance - Answers Body, Energy, Space, Time, Action
Body - Answers How dancers use their physicality to express themselves through movement. This
includes posture, alignment, flexibility, strength, and coordination.
Energy - Answers Dynamics or quality of movement. It encompasses the intensity, speed, weight, and
flow of motion. Dancers can vary energy levels to convey different emotions or to emphasize certain
aspects of their performance.
Space - Answers Area in which movement occurs. Includes consideration of direction, level, pathway,
and focus. Spatial awareness is essential for effective choreography and performance
Time - Answers Refers to the rhythm, tempo, and duration of movement. It involves manipulation of
timing, phrasing, and rhythmical patterns within choreography
Action - Answers Refers to specific movements or sequences performed by dancers. It encompasses a
wide range of physical actions, including gestures, steps, jumps, turns, and balances
The Elements of Music - Answers Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Form, Expression
Rhythm - Answers A consistent pattern of movement or sound, including components like beat,
meter, and tempo. Beat=music's pulse, Meter=pattern, Tempo=speed
Melody - Answers Refers to a sequence of notes that are perceived as a single entity. It is the most
recognizable and memorable aspect of a piece, often carrying the tune or main theme
Harmony - Answers The combination of different musical notes played simultaneously to create a
pleasing sound. It involves the vertical aspect of music where chords are formed by stacking notes
together in a way that complements the melody
Form - Answers The structure of a musical composition. It outlines how the different sections of a
piece are arranged and how they relate to each other
Expression - Answers The way that emotion, mood, or feeling is conveyed throughout a performance,
utilizing elements such as timbre (tone color), dynamics (volume), and stylistic interpretation
The Elements of Visual Art - Answers Line, shape, space, color, form, texture, value
Line - Answers A mark made by moving point and is often used to define shapes, create textures, and
convey emotions. Lines can vary in width, direction, curvature, and length, and they can be straight,
curved, zigzag, or wavy
Shape - Answers Refers to a two-dimensional, enclosed area defined by lines or contrast in color or
texture. Shapes can be geometric (such as circles, squares, and triangles) or organic (irregular and
free-form shapes often found in nature)
Space - Answers The area within, around, or between objects in a work of art. Techniques like
perspective, overlapping, and size variation are used to create a sense of depth and to organize the
composition
Color - Answers Produced by the way an object reflects or emits light and is characterized by
properties such as hue, value, and intensity.
Color can evoke emotions, convey messages, and create focal points
Form - Answers The three dimensional equivalent of shape giving an object volume and depth. Artists
use techniques like shading, perspective, and modeling to create the illusion of form on a flat surface
Texture - Answers Surface quality or feel of an object. Artists create texture through the use of
various techniques, such as brushstrokes, the application of materials, or digital effects
Value - Answers Refers to the lightness of darkness of a color. It is important for creating contrast,
depth, and emphasis in an artwork. Artists use a range of values from light to dark to create highlights
and shadows
