Lesson 1: Scientific models and a history of atoms
Scientific models
Models are useful tools that help scientists understand complex systems by
allowing them to analyze and make predictions.
A scientific model is a representation of an idea, object, or process that helps
us understand things that are too big, too small, or too complex to see
directly.
Different types of Scientific models
Physical model - smaller and simpler representation of a thing being
studied. Ex. Globe (Representation of Earth)
Conceptual model - Tie together many ideas to explain a phenomena or
event. Ex. Why are leaves green?
Mathematical model - is a way of representing a real-life situation using
numbers and equations so we can understand it, predict outcomes, or
solve problems.
Simulation model - uses a digital prototype to predict its performance
in the real world
