Emotional Intelligence (EI) refers to the ability of an individual to recognise,
understand, control, and appropriately express emotions while also being
aware of the emotions of other people. Daniel Goleman (1995) explains that
Emotional Intelligence plays an important role in communication, relationships,
problem-solving, and emotional well-being. Individuals with strong emotional
intelligence are usually able to cope with stressful situations more effectively
and maintain healthier social relationships.
One of the key elements of Emotional Intelligence is self-awareness. Self-
awareness is the ability to identify and understand one’s own emotions,
thoughts, and reactions. A self-aware learner can recognise when feelings
